East Riding Offers £5 Workshops to Boost Skills in January

Residents of East Riding of Yorkshire are invited to explore new interests and enhance their skills with the launch of the “Try January” initiative. This program offers £5 taster sessions in various workshops, including pottery, sewing, and Spanish, designed to engage the community in learning opportunities throughout January 2026.

The “Try January” initiative is part of a broader “Learning for Leisure” project by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Adult Learning service. Workshops will take place at several centers in the region, including locations in Bridlington, Beverley, Cottingham, and Goole, making it accessible for many residents.

Councillor Anne Handley, leader of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, expressed enthusiasm for the program, stating, “We’re proud to support lifelong learning across our region, and Try January is a great opportunity to improve skills and try something new.” She encourages residents to take advantage of this chance to explore different learning avenues.

In addition to the £5 taster courses, the Adult Learning service is promoting various educational resources. Residents can opt for qualifications, receive budgeting assistance, access digital devices through a digital gifting scheme, and participate in wellbeing courses. These offerings are designed to help individuals improve their functional English and Maths skills, with options available at both entry-level and GCSE equivalent. Such skills are crucial for addressing real-life challenges in the workplace and achieving recognized qualifications.

The Adult Learning team is available to assist residents interested in the taster sessions or other courses. Individuals can register for a free taster session or inquire about available courses by calling 01482 887670, emailing [email protected], or visiting the council’s official website at https://eryc.link/try-jan.

This initiative represents a significant effort to foster community engagement and support personal development. With a diverse range of workshops available at a minimal cost, residents have a unique opportunity to gain new skills and meet others in their community.
