Various Eateries Expands into Pubs with £11.25 Million Deal

Restaurant group Various Eateries has announced plans to expand its operations into the pub sector with the acquisition of several establishments for £11.25 million. The company, which operates well-known venues like Coppa Club and Noci, will also undergo a name change to Coppa Collective as part of this strategic move.

The acquisition involves four pubs with rooms from Grosvenor Pubs and Inns. The company expects to finalize the takeover of these sites on or around March 23, 2024. The initial locations include Wild Thyme & Honey in the Cotswolds, The Hare & Hounds in Berkshire, The Stag on the River in Surrey, and The Wellington Arms in Hampshire. Additionally, Various Eateries has entered into negotiations to potentially acquire The Queen’s Head in Surrey, which is currently undergoing an “asset of community value” process. This stipulation means the sale can only proceed after a statutory notification and moratorium period, which may last up to six weeks.

Founded by Hugh Osmond, the group operates a total of 20 sites, including restaurants, clubhouses, and hotels. Following the completion of this acquisition, Various Eateries plans to introduce a third brand within its portfolio named The Linwood Collection.

Chief Executive Officer Mark Loughborough expressed enthusiasm about the new direction, stating, “Linwood marks an important step in the evolution of the group. We are bringing into the business a small collection of premium pubs with rooms that have earned their reputations the right way, through great hospitality, careful attention to detail and a real sense of place.” He emphasized the growing appeal of premium pubs that combine food, drink, and accommodation, as they cater to a broader, destination-oriented market.

This announcement comes shortly after Various Eateries indicated its plans to explore potential merger and acquisition opportunities to drive further growth within the hospitality sector. The move into pubs represents a significant diversification of the company’s offerings, reflecting a strategic response to changing consumer preferences in the market.

By broadening its portfolio, Various Eateries aims to enhance its brand identity and establish a strong presence in the competitive pub market, which has increasingly become a popular choice among consumers seeking quality dining experiences alongside accommodation.
