The Isle of Man Government has outlined its holiday office closures for Christmas and New Year, affecting various public services and government offices. Residents should note that most offices will be closed on Thursday, December 25 (Christmas Day), Friday, December 26 (Boxing Day), Thursday, January 1 (New Year’s Day), and Friday, January 2 (Privilege Day). On the days preceding these closures, public counters will close earlier than usual.
Key Public Service Hours During the Holidays
On Wednesday, December 24, and Wednesday, December 31, public counters will close at 4 PM, unless their standard hours differ. The Isle of Man Airport will be closed on Christmas Day. The Financial Services Authority will also observe closures on December 25 and will reopen on Monday, December 29. Following another closure on January 1, the authority will resume normal operations on Monday, January 5.
Essential health and social care services will continue to function throughout the festive period. The Emergency Department (A&E) at Noble’s Hospital will remain open, along with a Minor Injuries Service. Public counters for Manx Care will close on December 25, December 26, and January 1, reopening on January 2 with a limited service.
GP surgeries will close at 6 PM on December 24 and will reopen at 8 AM on January 29. They will close again at 6 PM on December 31, resuming service at 8 AM on January 2. During these closures, the Manx Emergency Doctor Service (MEDS) will remain operational, and individuals requiring immediate care are advised to visit the Emergency Department at Noble’s Hospital.
Adjustments to Other Services
The Department of Home Affairs headquarters counter will close at 1 PM on December 24, reopening on January 5. The Isle of Man Constabulary Police Headquarters counter will operate from 10 AM to 6 PM on December 25 and 26. A yellow telephone outside the building will provide 24/7 access to the Emergency Services Joint Control Room.
Income Tax counters will close at 2 PM on December 24, with telephone lines shutting down at 3 PM. Regular opening hours will resume on other days, with phone lines operating until 4 PM on December 31. The Manx Museum and House of Manannan will close on December 25, December 26, and January 1, reopening at their usual hours from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM on other days.
Counters for Manx Utilities will close at 4 PM on December 24 and will reopen on December 29, with a second closure on December 31 until January 5. Emergency support will be available 24 hours a day via 687687 or Freephone 0808 1624 115.
Other services, including Occupational Health Services, Passport, Immigration & Nationality, and the Vehicle Test Centre, will also operate with adjusted hours. Registration offices for births and deaths in Douglas, Ramsey, Peel, and Castletown will observe varied schedules from mid-December until early January, ensuring residents remain informed throughout the holiday season.
