Montenegro Celebrates New Embassy Opening in Buenos Aires

The official visit of Montenegro’s Deputy Prime Minister Filip Ivanović to Argentina concluded with the inauguration of the country’s new embassy in Buenos Aires. The event attracted a significant number of descendants of Montenegrin emigrants and representatives from the local Montenegrin community.

According to a statement from the Deputy Prime Minister’s office for foreign and European affairs, the inauguration included a reception that gathered descendants from Buenos Aires and other regions, including the provinces of Chaco and Córdoba. This strong turnout underscored the enduring connection between the Montenegrin community in Argentina and their homeland, reflecting a keen interest in strengthening ties with Montenegro.

During his address, Ivanović expressed warm welcomes and gratitude to attendees for maintaining traditions and connections with Montenegro. He emphasized that the new embassy should serve as an open space for gathering and collaboration. The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted that Montenegro values the contributions of its emigrants and their descendants in fostering friendly relations between the two nations.

The event also featured remarks from Gordan Stojović, a former ambassador of Montenegro to Argentina and current member of the Montenegrin Parliament, who serves as the president of the Friendship Group with Argentina. He, along with Miroslav Radojičić, the chargé d’affaires at the embassy, stressed the importance of maintaining continuity in cooperation with the Montenegrin community in Argentina. They noted the embassy’s active role in this process.

This inauguration not only marked a significant milestone but also served as an opportunity for attendees to reconnect with their roots and historical ties to Montenegro. It aimed to renew contacts and enhance collaboration with the Buenos Aires embassy, paving the way for continued joint activities and strengthening the bonds between Montenegro and its diaspora in Argentina.

The significance of this event is further underscored by the fact that Buenos Aires was the first diplomatic address for Montenegro on the American continent. This historical connection highlights Argentina’s lasting importance in Montenegrin diplomatic history, as noted in the official statement.
