Kia Launches Second-Generation Seltos in the UK to Compete with VW

Kia is set to introduce its second-generation Seltos to the UK market in 2026, marking the model’s debut in Europe. This compact SUV aims to rival established players in the segment, notably the Volkswagen T-Roc. The Seltos features a compelling blend of advanced technology and striking aesthetics, designed to attract younger, style-conscious consumers.

The new Seltos will be available in a variety of vibrant colours, including Iceberg Green and Magma Red, appealing to those seeking a vehicle that stands out. While it is not designed as a rugged all-terrain vehicle, the Seltos incorporates a robust exterior with skidplates and offers an all-wheel-drive option. This model is built on the same K3 platform as the Kia Niro and the Hyundai Kona, reinforcing its solid foundation.

Performance and Engine Options

Kia plans to offer multiple engine configurations for the Seltos. Customers can choose between a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 147 bhp and a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine, which delivers either 178 bhp with a six-speed manual transmission or 192 bhp with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. A hybrid version is also anticipated, combining the 1.6-litre petrol engine with an electric motor for a total output of 139 bhp, mirroring the powertrain used in the Niro.

As the UK faces stricter emissions regulations, it is uncertain which engine options will be available domestically. The previous generation of the Seltos was not sold in the UK or Europe due to non-compliance with the EU’s safety and emissions standards. However, this new generation has been meticulously redesigned to meet those requirements.

Interior Features and Market Positioning

Inside, the Seltos boasts premium amenities, including a 12.3-inch infotainment display, a panoramic sunroof, and reclining rear seats, all contributing to a comfortable driving experience. The vehicle’s boot capacity of 536 litres further enhances its practicality for everyday use.

Ho Sung Song, Kia’s CEO, emphasized the significance of the Seltos for the brand’s global strategy, comparing it to the Sportage, which achieved over half a million sales in 2025. Song stated, “Because we are selling more than 150,000 units of the Sportage per year in the European market, we feel that we have a lot of opportunity to introduce Seltos.”

Although Kia has not yet confirmed the UK launch date or pricing for the Seltos, estimates suggest that prices may start around £30,000. Anticipation for this model is building as Kia seeks to enhance its presence in the competitive SUV market. As the launch date approaches, further details are expected to be announced early next year.
