A significant recall has been issued for certain bottles of Disaronno, a popular Italian liqueur, due to concerns that they may contain shards of glass. The recall, announced by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) on December 5, 2023, affects 700ml bottles sold in England and Scotland.
According to the FSA, the parent company Illva Saronno is taking precautionary measures after identifying a potential risk stemming from “small pieces of glass within some bottles,” which could pose a health hazard if consumed. The agency highlighted that the contamination may have occurred due to “an anomaly on the bottle line,” leading to the swift removal of affected products from supermarket shelves.
The recall specifically pertains to seven batches of Disaronno, which are identifiable by the following codes: 25374, 25375, 25381, 25382, 25435, 25442, and 25444. Customers are strongly advised to check the codes on the back of their bottles. Anyone who has purchased a bottle from these batches should refrain from consuming it and return it to the retailer for a full refund or replacement.
Similar Recall Issued in Ireland
In a related development, a similar recall was issued for Disaronno in the Republic of Ireland on the same day. The notice indicated that limited edition bottles labeled as “Disaronno Originale 500 Years” are also being recalled due to the potential presence of micro-fragments of glass. Customers in Ireland are advised to look for batches with the codes 25371 and 25372.
