Renowned Architect Ranko Radović’s Autobiography Launch Set for Dec. 11

UPDATE: The highly anticipated launch of architect and theorist Ranko Radović’s autobiography is scheduled for Thursday, December 11, 2023, at 18:00 CET at the Zavičajni Museum in Danilovgrad. This event promises to be a significant tribute to one of the most influential figures in architecture from the former Yugoslavia.

Officials from Matica crnogorska, the publishing house behind the book, will host a panel featuring esteemed architects Slavica Stamatović-Vukčević and Kresimir Rogina, along with political scientist Čedomir Čupić and publicist Rajko Radović, who will discuss the profound insights of Radović’s life and work. The panel will be moderated by editor Marko Špadijer.

The launch will be complemented by an exhibition showcasing selected works from third-year students of the Faculty of Architecture, produced under the guidance of Professor Dr. Slavica Stamatović-Vukčević. The exhibition, titled “Living Space – A Tribute to Professor Ranko Radović,” reflects the impactful legacy Radović has left on the architectural landscape.

Radović penned two volumes of his autobiography while in Japan, during his tenure as a guest lecturer at the University of Tsukuba in 1990 and 1991. In his writings, he explored critical themes of identity and cultural distance, questioning the very essence of autobiographical writing. As noted by writer and professor Dragan Radulović, Radović’s reflections reveal a nuanced relationship with his homeland, Montenegro, portraying a true cosmopolitan who cherishes his roots.

Radović, who passed away in February 2005, is remembered not only for his substantial architectural portfolio but also for his profound influence as a thinker, essayist, and educator. His contributions spanned architectural theory, urban development, and the philosophy of space, marking him as a pivotal figure in contemporary architecture. He served as Montenegro’s Minister for Urban Development and Environmental Protection from 2002 to 2003, further solidifying his impact on the field.

The public is urged to attend this event, which promises to celebrate not only Radović’s life but also the continuing evolution of architecture in Montenegro. As the launch date approaches, the significance of Radović’s work resonates strongly, reminding us of the enduring connection between architecture and cultural identity.
