Ukraine Unveils Revised Peace Plan, Rejects Land Concessions

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced a revised peace plan to be presented to the White House, firmly ruling out any concessions of Ukrainian territory to Vladimir Putin. This development follows a series of Russian missile and drone strikes in the Poltava region on December 7, 2025, underscoring the ongoing conflict’s severity. Zelensky stated that the new proposal has been streamlined to 20 points, down from the previous 28, after the removal of what he termed “obvious anti-Ukrainian points.”

In a strong statement, Zelensky emphasized the importance of Ukraine’s territorial integrity, asserting, “We have no legal right – under Ukrainian law, under our constitution, under international law. Honestly, we have no moral right, either.” This rejection comes amid differing views on peace negotiations, particularly regarding land concessions, which former U.S. President Donald Trump has suggested as necessary for achieving peace. However, both Ukraine and its European allies have consistently opposed any territorial compromises.

European Leaders Rally Behind Ukraine

Support for Ukraine remains robust among European leaders. Recently, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz convened at 10 Downing Street to express their solidarity with Zelensky. They collectively agreed on the urgency of increasing support for Ukraine and intensifying economic pressure on Russia to bring an end to what Starmer described as a “barbaric war.”

Starmer’s spokesperson, Tom Wells, highlighted the significance of these discussions, stating, “This is the furthest we’ve got in four years, and we welcome the fact that these talks are continuing at every level.” He noted that while “intensive work” would continue, several issues remain unresolved.

Macron’s office indicated that the meeting was productive, facilitating ongoing collaboration on the U.S.-brokered plan to incorporate European perspectives, in close coordination with Ukraine. The leaders’ unified front illustrates the international community’s commitment to supporting Ukraine as it navigates this challenging period.

As the conflict continues, the focus remains on finding a peaceful resolution that respects Ukraine’s sovereignty while addressing the broader geopolitical ramifications of the war. The new peace plan’s reception in Washington will be closely monitored, with hopes that it will pave the way for renewed dialogue and ultimately, lasting peace.
