Juno Films Acquires ‘Cielo’ After Major Festival Wins

URGENT UPDATE: Juno Films has just announced its acquisition of all North American rights to the award-winning film ‘Cielo’, directed by Alberto Sciamma. This Spanish-language magical realist fable has made waves at both Fantasporto and Fantasia Fest, capturing multiple prestigious awards.

The film features Fernanda Gutierrez Aranda as Santa, a young orphan from the Bolivian Altiplano. In a gripping tale, Santa embarks on a daring journey with her mother’s body hidden in a barrel of salt. Her quest? To find the road to Heaven and resurrect her mother. The plot thickens as she is guided by a fish she swallows alive, encounters a priest, and is rescued by a bus full of Cholia fighters, only to face a sad police chief grieving his wife’s death three years prior.

At Fantasporto, ‘Cielo’ won the Special Jury Prize, the audience award, and accolades for Best Cinematography. It continued its success at Fantasia Fest, where it took home the Cheval Noir competition’s Best Cinematography Award. This remarkable reception underscores the film’s emotional depth and artistic vision.

Juno Films negotiated the deal with Caroline Couret-Delègue, president of Film Seekers, and is planning a festival release followed by a national theatrical premiere in spring 2026. Vondah Elizabeth, CEO of Juno Films, praised Sciamma’s creation, stating, “Alberto has created a modern fable that defies any expectations. When I first watched the film, I was riveted by a story that, like the best of fairytales, looks evil in the eye and tells it not to get in the way of the heroine’s well-laid plans.”

As audiences await its release, ‘Cielo’ stands out as a film that combines fantasy with poignant themes of loss and resilience. With its unique narrative and critical acclaim, it’s clear this film is poised to make a significant impact in the North American market.

Stay tuned for more updates on ‘Cielo’ and its upcoming festival circuit as it continues to captivate viewers worldwide.
