PSC and Police Affairs Ministry Launch Recruitment for 50,000 Officers

The Police Service Commission (PSC) announced a collaborative initiative with the Nigeria Police Force and the Ministry of Police Affairs to recruit 50,000 new police officers. This strategic meeting aimed to ensure the recruitment process is transparent, equitable, and merit-based, according to a statement from the PSC’s Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, Torty Kalu.

DIG Hashimu Argungu, the Chairman of the PSC, emphasized the commitment to an inclusive recruitment process that would enhance the Nigeria Police Force’s capacity and diversity. Representing Argungu, DIG Taiwo Lakanu, Chairman of the PSC Standing Committee on Nigeria Police Force Matters, reinforced the need for collaboration among stakeholders to maintain the integrity of the recruitment exercise.

Commitment to Transparency and Inclusivity

During the meeting, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Police Affairs, Dr. Anuma Ogbonnaya, expressed optimism about the recruitment initiative. He reiterated the Ministry’s dedication to collaborating closely with the PSC and other stakeholders to ensure a successful process. The stakeholders reached several key resolutions, including a strict adherence to Federal Character principles to guarantee equitable representation from all states of Nigeria.

Efforts will also be made to enhance gender inclusivity, encouraging qualified female candidates to apply. The PSC plans to implement a technology-driven process designed to minimize external interference and foster public trust in the recruitment exercise.

Kalu assured the public and prospective applicants that the recruitment will be conducted with the highest level of accountability, adhering to relevant laws and guidelines. He stated that further details regarding the recruitment timeline will be announced in due course.
