Taraba Governor Kefas Meets President Tinubu Ahead of APC Rally

Governor Abu Kefas of Taraba State held a meeting with President Bola Tinubu on Monday at the State House in Abuja. The meeting marks a significant moment for Kefas, who recently transitioned from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Accompanying the governor was the APC National Chairman, Prof Nentawe Yilwatda.

This closed-door meeting was the first since Kefas’s defection to the APC, highlighting the political shift in Taraba State. Initially, a formal reception rally was planned for November 19, 2025, to welcome Kefas into the party. However, the event was postponed due to the recent abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State, which necessitated a period of mourning and reflection.

Details regarding the agenda of the meeting between President Tinubu and Governor Kefas were not disclosed. Still, sources indicate that the APC National Chairman took the opportunity to introduce Kefas to the president as the latest governor to join the ruling party.

The governor is now set to be formally welcomed into the APC during a grand reception scheduled for December 6, 2025, in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State. This event is anticipated to be a pivotal moment for the APC as it seeks to strengthen its presence in the region.

Kefas’s defection is part of a broader trend of political realignment in Nigeria, as various politicians shift allegiances in response to the changing political landscape. The APC, under Tinubu’s leadership, aims to consolidate power in the lead-up to future elections, leveraging such defections to enhance its influence.

As the December rally approaches, the focus will be on how the APC intends to harness the support of new members like Kefas and how this may impact the party’s strategy in Taraba State and beyond.
