Met Office Issues Urgent Weather Warnings as Flooding Looms

UPDATE: The Met Office has just issued urgent weather warnings as torrential rains are set to batter Wales, leading to imminent flood risks and road closures. The yellow rain alert is effective from Monday, December 1, and remains in place until 3 AM on Tuesday morning.

Heavy downpours are forecasted, with over 100 mm of rain expected to fall across exposed hills in Wales and western England by the end of Monday. This amount is around half of what is typically expected to fall throughout the entire month of December.

Currently, there are already 12 flood warnings or alerts issued across North Wales, indicating that flooding is not just possible but likely. The warning zone includes Beddgelert, with alerts spreading across the whole region. A Flood Alert means flooding is possible, and residents are advised to prepare, while a Flood Warning indicates that flooding is expected, requiring immediate action.

Several roads are affected, notably the A5114 Glanhwfa Road on Anglesey, which is partially blocked due to flooding from the Llangefni Link Road to Tan Y Fron. Drivers are urged to exercise extreme caution while navigating these areas.

In addition to heavy rain, strong south to southwesterly winds will accompany the deluge, with gales anticipated around coasts and over high ground. These conditions will exacerbate the risks of flooding, making immediate preparations essential for residents in vulnerable areas.
