Katie Taylor Reveals Marriage Joy and Family Reconciliation Today

BREAKING: Boxing champion Katie Taylor has shared heartfelt insights about her recent marriage to Sean McCavanagh and her renewed relationship with her father, Pete Taylor. During a candid interview on the Late Late Show, she expressed how love unexpectedly found her amid her intense boxing career.

The 39-year-old athlete, who has been based in Connecticut since 2016, revealed she tied the knot with McCavanagh earlier this year. They went public with their relationship in September when Sean accompanied Katie back to her native Wicklow. “I think since I was a teenager, I’ve been so focused on boxing, I left very little room for relationships,” Taylor disclosed. “So it’s so lovely that love snuck up in the later stages of my career.”

Amid her personal joy, Taylor also spoke about her family dynamics, particularly her bond with her father, who trained her to Olympic glory. She acknowledged the complicated nature of family relationships, stating, “Family can be complicated and beautiful at the same time.” After parting ways with Pete as her coach before the 2016 Rio Olympics, Katie faced what she described as the darkest period of her career. “There were moments where I missed my dad, missed having him in the corner,” she reflected.

Despite their past tensions, Taylor confirmed that they have mended their relationship. “I stepped away from my dad as a coach, but he never stopped being my dad,” she said. Their reunion during her training for the recent fight against Amanda Serrano marked a significant moment for both. “Having him with me in Connecticut for a few weeks helping me prepare was a full-circle moment,” she noted.

As she prepares to celebrate Christmas back home in Ireland, Taylor praised her mother, Bridget, for her unwavering support throughout her career. “She’s been one constant through all the ups and downs of my life and career. She’s the most selfless person you’ll ever meet,” Taylor expressed, highlighting how crucial family has been to her success.

After her thrilling victory over Serrano in July, Taylor is currently taking a break from boxing, a significant shift in her routine. “I think this is the first time I’ve taken a break in my whole career,” she admitted. “The time to relax and reflect with family has been amazing. It’s been a really lovely time for me,” she concluded.
