Shona McGarty, known for her role in EastEnders, has shared a personal revelation about her recent heartbreak during her time on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!. The actress, who is currently participating in the popular reality show alongside other celebrities like Lisa Riley and Martin Kemp, candidly discussed her emotional struggles after experiencing a breakup shortly before entering the jungle.
As the campmates engaged in a conversation about engagements and proposals, Shona found herself overwhelmed and decided to step away. She later confided in fellow contestant Tom Read Wilson, disclosing that she had just ended her engagement to musician David Bracken. “I just couldn’t be part of that conversation,” McGarty admitted. “When I came in, I’d just broken up with my fiancé, so I just walked away.”
During the discussion, Aitch, the rapper, expressed his enthusiasm for marriage, stating he would “100%” like to tie the knot. Meanwhile, Kelly and Martin shared anecdotes about their own relationships. Kelly recalled how her husband, Jeremy Parisi, had never formally proposed due to his apprehension stemming from her previous five engagements. Martin humorously recounted how his partner, Shirlie, had “grabbed my collar and dragged me” into a ring shop.
Shona’s emotional moment highlighted the difficulties she is facing. She expressed a deep longing for a family, saying, “I really want a family, I’d love to be a mummy and a wife.” This desire comes in the wake of her split, which occurred just before her arrival in Australia.
Despite her personal challenges, McGarty has been focusing on her journey of self-discovery. She recently shared a message on Instagram that reflected her desire to embrace authenticity. In line with the release of her new single, Unapologetically Me, she wrote, “I’m finally learning to just be me, no filters, no apologies.” The post emphasized her commitment to living freely and confidently, stating, “This is the start of really living, fully and authentically.”
As I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! continues to air, viewers can expect to see more of Shona’s journey. The show airs on ITV1 and ITVX, with new episodes scheduled to air at 21:00 each night.
