Following a recent summit in Tirana, Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajić emphasized the transformative impact of the European Union’s (EU) single market access on the lives of citizens in the Western Balkans. Spajić declared that this opportunity not only enhances the region’s stability but also strengthens the broader European perspective.
During his remarks on November 21, 2025, Spajić articulated a sense of urgency for the Western Balkans to seize its “ticket to a European future.” He stated, “Access to the EU single market changes the lives of the citizens in this region and strengthens its stability and perspective for all of Europe.”
The summit highlighted Montenegro’s leading role in the EU enlargement process, which has been anticipated for over a decade. Spajić shared his pride in Montenegro’s position and reiterated the importance of this path for regional progress.
Enhancements to Daily Life and Business Operations
Spajić pointed out several key benefits that the single market will bring, including faster border crossings, roaming charges equivalent to those at home, and simpler, more affordable payment systems for both citizens and businesses. He noted that these changes will significantly improve digital accessibility and provide integration advantages that open new opportunities for all.
Moreover, he announced that regional partners and the EU are establishing new connectivity instruments, such as AI factories and the Single Market Highway. These initiatives are designed to integrate Western Balkan companies into European supply chains, enhancing investment prospects in the region.
Spajić emphasized the collective goal of a more expedited journey towards full EU membership. He stated, “With our partners from the region and the EU, we are creating new instruments of connectivity that will open European value chains to our companies and attract investments.”
The Prime Minister’s statements reflect a broader commitment to progress and collaboration among the Western Balkan nations, aiming to create a more interconnected and prosperous future for the region. The ongoing dialogue with EU representatives underscores the importance of this initiative for both local communities and the overall stability of Europe.
The summit in Tirana serves as a pivotal moment in shaping the future of the Western Balkans as it seeks to integrate more fully into the European framework. With a renewed focus on cooperation and development, the region stands on the brink of significant change, driven by the promise of EU market access.
