UPDATE: Two teenagers have been arrested following a dramatic police chase involving a helicopter in Bidston, UK, late last night. Authorities were alerted at 11:10 PM on November 19 to reports of motorbikes being driven in an anti-social manner, prompting a swift response from Merseyside Police.
Police spotted the suspects riding towards Bidston Hill, where they abandoned both a motorbike and a moped near Bidston Observatory. It was confirmed that both vehicles were stolen. In a coordinated effort, police deployed a helicopter from the National Police Air Service (NPAS), tracking the two suspects to a wooded area near Eleanor Road in Birkenhead.
The suspects, a 15-year-old boy from Beechwood and a 16-year-old boy from Woodchurch, were apprehended on suspicion of multiple offenses, including theft of a motor vehicle, driving without a license, and driving without insurance. They were taken to a local police station for questioning but have since been released under investigation as inquiries continue.
Chief Inspector Derek Riley from the Matrix Disruption team emphasized the serious nature of the incident, stating, “This was not a game of hide and seek these two were ever likely to win, with eyes in the sky, wheels on the roads, and feet on the ground.” He highlighted the risks associated with vehicle crime and anti-social behavior, stressing that what may seem like harmless fun can lead to tragic outcomes on the roads.
Authorities are urging the public to report any suspicious activity. “Help us reduce the harm by calling 999 if a crime is in progress,” Riley encouraged. “If you know where stolen or illegally owned bikes are being stored, come forward so we can take action before they bring fear to those who live nearby.”
