The beloved family dog was reportedly taken during a car theft outside a home in Wynnum, Brisbane, between 1:30 AM and 5:00 AM on November 8, 2025. A frantic search ensued, with McKeown and his partner, Louise McKeown, launching a viral campaign and offering a $6,000 reward for Arnie’s safe return.
On November 17, the heartbreaking search came to a devastating end when Arnie was discovered dead inside the ute parked on Amelia Street in Fortitude Valley, a popular nightlife area. Initial reports celebrated the search effort, but recent police inquiries have drastically altered the narrative.
Queensland Police announced that they will allege the vehicle was not stolen, asserting that McKeown left Arnie inside the ute before abandoning it.
