URGENT UPDATE: Specsavers Home Visits has just announced a generous donation of £2,000 to the West Lothian charity Food Train, marking the beginning of an impactful partnership aimed at supporting older residents in the community. This commitment, revealed earlier today, is part of Food Train’s ongoing mission to help elderly individuals live healthier, more independent lives.
Food Train, which celebrated its 30th anniversary this year, provides essential services like grocery shopping deliveries and meal sharing. With the rising demand on health and social care services, the charity plays a crucial role in ensuring that older people do not face isolation and can access the support they need.
The donation from Specsavers Home Visits is specifically aimed at enhancing Food Train’s BOXtober fundraising campaign, which successfully sponsored over 750 boxes of groceries. These funds are vital for covering increasing costs tied to fuel, delivery vans, and overall operational expenses, enabling the charity to continue its noble work.
Lynne Seebaluck, director at Specsavers Home Visits, expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “It’s great for people who are not tech-savvy and can’t order their shopping online.” She emphasized the importance of the befriending service for those feeling lonely, adding, “Our main goal at Specsavers Home Visits is to provide essential care to customers who, due to a multitude of reasons, are unable to pay a visit to a high street store.”
Lorna Farquhar, regional manager of Food Train in West Lothian, echoed this sentiment, saying, “What we do isn’t just about groceries and meals. It’s about building trust and making people in our communities realize that they are not alone.” Farquhar highlighted the significant role volunteers play in enhancing the health, well-being, and independence of older individuals.
As part of their ongoing commitment, the Specsavers team is planning a festive treat in collaboration with Food Train later this year and has pledged to support the charity throughout 2026.
