UPDATE: A devastating crash in Co Louth has claimed the lives of five young adults, sending shockwaves through the local community. The fatal incident occurred on the L3168 just outside Dundalk at approximately 9 PM on November 15, 2025, as they traveled in a Volkswagen Golf.
Authorities have confirmed that the victims, aged between 21 and 23, include Chloe McGee, 23, and Shay Duffy, 21, both from Carrickmacross; Alan McCluskey, 23, from Drumconrath; Dylan Commins, 23, from Ardee; and Chloe Hipson, 21, from Lanarkshire, Scotland. They were en route to a night out in Dundalk when tragedy struck.
A sixth occupant of the vehicle is currently receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries, while two individuals from the other vehicle involved, a Toyota Land Cruiser, were also hospitalized. The crash has been described by local police as “shocking and devastating.”
Speaking on BBC’s Good Morning Ulster, Padraig McGovern, principal of O Fiaich College where Chloe McGee taught, expressed the profound impact of the tragedy: “To think that we’re going to school today and she won’t be there is an incredible shock.”
The Irish Prime Minister, Micheal Martin, expressed his grief, stating he was “numbed and shocked” by the news, while Deputy Premier Simon Harris noted a “veil of deep sadness” has fallen across the nation.
The Gardaí have initiated a major investigation into the collision, appealing for any witnesses or individuals with camera footage from the L3168 between 8:30 PM and 9:15 PM on Saturday night to come forward. Superintendent Charlie Armstrong, addressing the media, confirmed that family liaison officers have been assigned to support the victims’ families during this heartbreaking time.
“The scene was very difficult, in adverse weather conditions, and the professionalism shown by all first responders was exemplary,” he stated. Investigators have cordoned off the area for a thorough examination, with further searches planned for Monday.
