Tesco and Salvation Army Launch Christmas Toy Drive in Consett

Tesco has partnered with The Salvation Army for a Christmas Toy Appeal aimed at supporting local children in Consett. From now until December 15, 2023, shoppers at the Consett Genesis Extra store are encouraged to donate new, unwrapped toys. These donations will be distributed to children in need within the community, ensuring that they can experience the joy of the holiday season.

Community Champion at the Consett Genesis Extra store, Kathryn Herdman, expressed the importance of the initiative: “Giving is not just about making a donation – it’s about making a difference. We want to make this our biggest collection yet with the help of the amazing generosity of the Consett community.” Her sentiments resonate with the core mission of this appeal, which seeks to uplift local families during a time when many face challenges.

The Head of Communities at Tesco, Claire De Silva, added, “Our stores are committed to supporting local children and their communities year-round. Thanks to the generosity of our customers and colleagues, the annual toy donation campaign is a wonderful way to make a difference at Christmas. It’s great to see Tesco Consett Genesis Extra partnering with The Salvation Army Consett this year to ensure that every child experiences the magic of Christmas.”

This year, over 800 large Tesco stores across the UK will feature dedicated toy donation points, encouraging customers to contribute new toys purchased in-store. Last Christmas, Tesco customers donated an impressive total of 125,000 toys, and the retailer aims to surpass that figure this holiday season.

The collaboration between Tesco and The Salvation Army exemplifies the spirit of community and the importance of giving during the festive season. Local residents in Consett are urged to participate in this initiative, helping to spread joy and make a significant impact on the lives of children in their area.
