UPDATE: Budva has clinched a crucial playoff position by defeating Buducnost 3:1 in a high-stakes match at the MTEL Hall Moraca earlier today. This victory not only marks Budva’s second win in this season’s derby but also ensures their place as the top seed heading into the EPCG Superliga playoffs.
The win indicates Budva’s impressive record, having secured 11 victories this season, with expectations for a 12th win in their upcoming match against Sutjeska. Buducnost, now relegated to the quarterfinals, faces Lovcen, who currently sits at the bottom of the league standings.
Miljan Boskovic, Budva’s head coach, emphasized the psychological importance of this match, stating, “This game was significant both in terms of results and for our mindset as we prepare for the playoffs. Our level of focus and intensity throughout was commendable.”
Budva’s success was largely attributed to their performance in the first set, where they overcame an early deficit. Buducnost initially led by as many as four points and held a 23:21 advantage, but Budva rallied with a crucial 4-0 run to take the set. Boskovic remarked, “The first set was pivotal. Even though we started poorly, we displayed character and turned it around, which was vital for the match’s outcome.”
The second set was more decisive for Budva, who controlled the game and won comfortably with a score of 25:20. However, Buducnost responded by taking the third set 25:20, prolonging the match’s tension. Despite this setback, Budva dominated the fourth set, closing it out with a resounding 24:15 score to seal the match.
“Our second set was the turning point,” Boskovic added. “We dictated the pace and did not allow Buducnost to bounce back. It showcased our quality and confidence.”
Looking ahead, Budva will enjoy home-court advantage throughout the playoffs, a factor that could be crucial in their anticipated final matchup against Buducnost, with whom they are currently tied 2-2 this season across competitions.
“This match is a vital step forward and serves as additional motivation as we continue the season,” Boskovic concluded. “We have room for improvement, but I want to see this level of energy moving forward.”
As Budva prepares for the playoffs, fans are eager to see if they can build on their momentum and aim for championship glory this season. Stay tuned for further updates as the playoffs approach!
