Botalys and Biohm have introduced a novel formulation concept aimed at enhancing post-workout recovery for active individuals. This innovative solution combines ingredients that target multiple biological pathways, providing a comprehensive recovery strategy that addresses both immune signaling and muscle metabolism.
The collaboration features Botalys’ proprietary red ginseng, which is standardized to over 12% total ginsenosides. This includes more than 10% of rare ginsenosides, such as Rg3, Rg5, and Rk1. These compounds are designed to support muscle and systemic recovery by enhancing mitochondrial energy and cellular resistance. Meanwhile, Biohm contributes its Phorum product, a three-strain heat-treated probiotic blend that includes Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus, and Saccharomyces boulardii. This probiotic acts upstream via the gut-immune axis to promote balanced inflammatory signaling.
The dual mechanism aims to address a critical gap in recovery solutions, as intense exercise often leads to muscle soreness, transient immune stress, inflammatory signaling, and oxidative load. The companies believe that these recovery factors are essential not only for athletes but for individuals of all ages who wish to maintain an active lifestyle.
Targeting Active Consumers
The product is positioned for consumers who regularly engage in training and prioritize recovery as part of a sustainable health routine. It is tailored to fit into a variety of formats, including daily recovery and resilience supplements, functional beverages, wellness shots, and various delivery forms such as powders, capsules, and stick packs.
According to Kristin Wilhoyte, vice president of marketing at Biohm, this collaboration allows brands flexibility in formulation design, dosage, and positioning. “This gives brands flexibility in formulation design, dosage, and positioning, rather than locking them into a fixed premix,” she stated. The ingredients are currently available in the United States, with broader international availability dependent on local regulatory requirements.
This announcement marks the latest in a series of strategic collaborations for both companies. Last year, Botalys partnered with Haleon to deliver a sustainable botanical ingredient and collaborated with Brightseed to utilize AI in measuring and optimizing the bioactive expression of its plant supply. Biohm has also teamed up with ADM to create a microbiome formulation tailored for women aged 45 to 65, and has previously worked with Life Extension to develop microbiome products.
A Focus on Future Collaborations
When discussing the future of the collaboration between Botalys and Biohm, Wilhoyte clarified that this initiative does not constitute a formal strategic partnership in the traditional sense. Instead, it represents a deliberate formulation concept designed to merge two complementary ingredients. “We see strong potential for brands to build on this multi-system recovery approach,” she added.
As the active nutrition market continues to evolve, the partnership between Botalys and Biohm showcases a forward-thinking approach that could reshape recovery solutions and support a wide array of health-conscious consumers.
