Tata Punch EV Facelift Set for Launch Tomorrow with Key Upgrades

Tata Motors is poised to unveil the first facelift of the Tata Punch EV tomorrow, introducing significant updates to its most affordable electric SUV. This revamped model will feature new exterior styling, an upgraded touchscreen in higher variants, and a larger battery option. Following over two years on the market, this facelift marks the Punch EV’s first major update, aligning its design with the recent changes made to the petrol and CNG versions of the model.

The facelift comes at a time when competition in the entry-level electric vehicle market is intensifying, necessitating fresh features to attract buyers. Although full details will be disclosed at the launch, several modifications have already been confirmed.

Exterior Design Enhancements

Ahead of the launch, Tata has revealed some aesthetic changes to the Punch EV. The front bumper has been redesigned, featuring a closed grille, and the previous black strip connecting the headlamps has been removed, leading to a cleaner appearance. The lower scuff plate has also seen a slight update, while the Y-shaped LED daytime running lamps remain unchanged.

In a nod to modern design, the Punch EV will sport new aero-style alloy wheels reminiscent of those found on the Tata Nexon EV. Additionally, Tata will introduce fresh colour options, including a vibrant yellow similar to the ‘Sunlit Yellow’ seen on the Harrier and a new metallic copper shade with a contrasting black roof. At the rear, the facelifted model will incorporate connected LED tail-lamps, consistent with the updated internal combustion engine (ICE) version of the Punch.

Interior and Technological Upgrades

While the basic dashboard layout is expected to remain similar, enhancements in interior aesthetics are anticipated. New colour themes and trim finishes will be introduced, elevating the cabin’s appeal. Higher variants of the Punch EV are set to feature a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, replacing the existing 10.25-inch unit. This upgrade will come with updated software for improved user experience.

Safety features will also see enhancements, with a Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) package likely to be added. Other anticipated features include a 10.25-inch digital driver display, wireless charging capabilities, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, connected car technology, and a 360-degree camera.

Battery and Performance Specifications

One of the key mechanical updates for the facelifted Punch EV is the introduction of a larger battery pack. Tata Motors has confirmed a higher-capacity option; however, exact specifications remain undisclosed. The existing 25kWh and 35kWh battery packs are expected to carry over. The 25kWh version currently produces 82 horsepower and 114 Nm of torque, offering a range of approximately 265 kilometres. The 35kWh variant delivers 122 horsepower and 190 Nm of torque, with a range of up to 365 kilometres. These figures may be subject to slight adjustments following the update.

The refreshed Punch EV will continue to compete in the market alongside the Citroen eC3. Pricing for the vehicle is anticipated to see a minor increase over the current range of Rs 9.99 lakh to Rs 14.44 lakh (ex-showroom), reflecting the enhancements introduced in the facelift.

As Tata Motors prepares to launch this updated model, it aims to solidify the Punch EV’s position in the rapidly evolving electric vehicle market.
