Nationwide Building Society has addressed recent customer concerns regarding payment delays related to credit card transactions. A customer reported difficulties making their monthly minimum payment after their credit card was suspended due to alleged fraudulent transactions. They sought guidance on how to avoid missed payment charges while awaiting a replacement card.
In response, Nationwide outlined several available options for customers facing similar issues. The building society stated, “You can make your payment by calling us, making a transfer, setting up direct debit, or visiting one of our branches.” Additionally, the organization directed customers to a dedicated section on its website that details credit card payment methods, including options through the online banking service and mobile app.
The affected customer indicated they had attempted to process a payment through the app on January 21, 2024, but stated that it had not been credited against the remaining balance of the cancelled card. Nationwide clarified that payments typically take between one to two working days to clear. They advised, “If you’ve already made a payment, and it’s been more than two working days, please start a chat in the Nationwide banking app or through Internet Banking, or give us a call.”
Incentives for New Customers
In related news, Nationwide is offering a £175 bonus to customers switching their current account to the building society. This incentive applies to those transferring from a non-Nationwide provider to either a new or existing FlexDirect, FlexAccount, or FlexPlus account. To qualify, customers must complete a full switch using the Current Account Switch Service, which includes closing their previous account within a 28-day period.
To be eligible for the bonus, customers must deposit at least £1,000 into their new account and conduct at least one debit card transaction within 31 days of opening the account or submitting their switch application. It is important to note that individuals who have already claimed a current account switch offer from Nationwide since 2021 will not qualify for this new incentive.
There are exceptions to this rule; customers who received a switch payment for transferring to a sole account may still be eligible for the reward if they switch to a joint account, and vice versa.
