Montenegro Hosts Thriving National Judo Championships in Podgorica

The Senior National Judo Championships took place in Podgorica, Montenegro, showcasing the skill and determination of over 100 competitors from 20 clubs across the country. The event, held at the sports hall of “Novka Ubović” Primary School, highlighted the growing popularity and competitive spirit of judo in Montenegro.

A strong representation was seen from several clubs, with Ibar, Onogošt, Akademik, and Monte Tatami each claiming two national titles. Other clubs such as Ljubović, Nenad Sinanović, Ipon, Champion, Straševina, and Milenijum also celebrated success, each securing one title.

In the men’s categories, gold medals were awarded to a range of impressive athletes. Notably, Matej Milić from Ljubović triumphed in the under 60 kg category, while Emil Sinanović from Nenad Sinanović claimed victory in the under 66 kg division. Other winners included Jusuf Nurković (Ibar, under 73 kg), Jahja Nurković (Ibar, under 81 kg), Stevan Nikčević (Onogošt, under 90 kg), Aleksandar Tomić (Akademik, under 100 kg), and Stefan Kovinić (Monte Tatami, over 100 kg).

The women’s competition saw equally fierce battles, with Marija Simić from Ippon winning in the under 48 kg category. Other winners included Milana Stevanović (Monte Tatami, under 52 kg), Tamara Gardashević (Akademik, under 57 kg), Nataša Jeftić (Champion, under 63 kg), Andrijana Šutović (Straševina, under 70 kg), Teodora Vlahović (Milenijum, under 78 kg), and Jovana Mrvaljević (Onogošt, over 78 kg).

The championships underscored the depth of talent in Montenegrin judo, with competitors demonstrating exceptional skill and sportsmanship. As the event concluded, it was clear that judo continues to thrive in Montenegro, with clubs eager to build on this momentum in future competitions.
