Dolphins Elevate Bobby Slowik to Offensive Coordinator Position

The Miami Dolphins have officially promoted Bobby Slowik to the role of offensive coordinator, as confirmed by a source to ESPN on March 16, 2025. Slowik previously served as the team’s passing game coordinator during the 2025 season and was also a candidate for the offensive coordinator position with the Philadelphia Eagles.

This announcement marks the second significant coordinator hire under new head coach Jeff Hafley, who took the helm of the Dolphins earlier this week. Just a day before Slowik’s promotion, the team appointed Chris Tabor, the former special teams coordinator for the Buffalo Bills, to the same position.

In addition to Slowik’s promotion, the Dolphins have been actively exploring candidates for their defensive coordinator role, having interviewed Clint Hurtt, the defensive line coach for the Eagles. During his introductory news conference, Hafley emphasized that he will take charge of the defensive play-calling, while the offensive strategy will be tailored to the team’s personnel strengths.

“I want to take a close look at what we have and make sure we fit that to give our players the best chance to succeed,” Hafley stated. He underscored his commitment to a physical running game, highlighting that, “There are certain core beliefs that I really do believe in, like running the ball and being really physical up front.”

The Dolphins’ passing game faced challenges in the 2025 season, ranking 25th in the NFL with an average of just 180.5 passing yards per game. As the team looks ahead to the 2026 season, they may be preparing to integrate a new quarterback, with current starter Tua Tagovailoa contemplating a change of scenery.

Despite struggles in the air attack, Miami’s rushing offense shone brightly, primarily due to the performance of running back De’Von Achane, who achieved a career-high 1,350 rushing yards, placing him fifth in the league. Hafley expressed his intention to build on this success, stating, “I like being under center and do I like running the football because the play-action pass off that creates separation.”

Slowik brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Before joining the Dolphins, he served as the offensive coordinator for the Houston Texans for two seasons. Under his leadership in 2023, Houston ranked 12th in both yards and scoring. However, those numbers saw a decline in 2024, finishing 22nd and 19th, respectively. Slowik’s coaching journey also includes tenures with the San Francisco 49ers and the Washington Commanders, beginning in 2011. He and Hafley worked together on the 49ers staff from 2017 to 2018.

As the Dolphins move forward with these strategic changes, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how Slowik’s promotion will impact the team’s performance in the upcoming season. The focus will be on reshaping the offensive strategy to better utilize the strengths of both the players and the coaching staff.
