Montenegro Government Approves Security for Schools Until June 2026

The Government of Montenegro has confirmed the implementation of physical security measures in educational institutions across the country from February 1 to June 15, 2026. This decision, announced during a session on January 22, 2026, aims to enhance the safety of students and staff in response to rising incidents of violence in schools and student residences.

According to the Ministry of Education, Science, and Innovation, the initiative involves deploying security personnel at 68 primary schools, 44 secondary schools, and one student dormitory. This move continues the practice of providing physical security in educational settings, a strategy that has previously proven effective.

The decision comes as a preventative measure to address increasing concerns about violence and other unwanted incidents within schools. The government has emphasized that the security personnel will be engaged temporarily until a comprehensive solution is established, which may include the introduction of school police or alternative security measures in collaboration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

“This temporary measure is designed to protect children and staff, contributing to a safe and stable environment for educational activities,” stated representatives from the Ministry of Education, Science, and Innovation.

The government’s action reflects a growing awareness of the need for enhanced security in schools, ensuring that students can pursue their education in a secure atmosphere. While the specific details of the security personnel’s roles remain to be outlined, the initiative signals a proactive approach to safeguarding the educational environment in Montenegro.
