At the NAMM 2026 event, PRS Guitars introduced a groundbreaking signature model in collaboration with musician Ed Sheeran. The new SE Cosmic Splash is a hollowbody baritone guitar, a first for PRS, and is limited to just 1,000 pieces. This innovative instrument features an extended 27.7-inch scale length, setting it apart in both design and functionality.
Sheeran, known for his hits like “Shape of You,” has previously collaborated with brands such as Martin and Lowden Guitars. The release of the SE Cosmic Splash represents a significant milestone, as it marks the first time PRS has produced a hollowbody baritone guitar, aside from a unique model developed for the soundtrack of F1: The Movie.
Distinctive Design and Features
The aesthetics of the PRS SE Ed Sheeran “Cosmic Splash” Limited Edition are inspired by one of Sheeran’s paintings from his 2025 Cosmic Carpark series. This artwork initiative has contributed to the Ed Sheeran Foundation, which supports music education across the UK. The guitar’s fretboard inlays are uniquely designed with symbols representing play, pause, rewind, fast-forward, and stop, reflecting Sheeran’s recent Stereo album series that began with “Play” last year.
Beyond its striking appearance, the SE Cosmic Splash boasts a sophisticated PRS/LR Baggs Piezo system and 85/15 “S” pickups. Players can blend or isolate the two voicings using onboard controls for Magnetic Volume, Piezo Volume, and Tone, along with a three-way pickup switch. The guitar also features a PRS adjustable stoptail bridge with six saddles and lightweight PRS-branded tuners. The combination of a mahogany body with a maple top, a set maple neck with a “wide fat” shape, and a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with a 10-inch radius enhances its acoustic and electric qualities.
Sheeran’s Enthusiasm and Availability
Ed Sheeran expressed his excitement about the instrument, stating, “A PRS hollowbody baritone has never been done before. It’s super special. I’ve been using it all tour, and I love it.” He also noted the limited availability of the guitar, urging fans to act quickly, “It’s a limited edition, so it will go fast, but there’s more to come, so stay tuned.”
The PRS SE Cosmic Splash is available in Standard B tuning (B-E-A-D-F#-B) and comes with a gig bag, as well as a signed 8×8-inch print of the Cosmic Splash artwork. The retail price is set at $1,599, making it an appealing option for both collectors and musicians alike.
In addition to this significant launch, the event also highlighted the arrival of John Mayer’s Grateful Dead PRS Silver Sky, indicating a vibrant start for Paul Reed Smith’s company in 2026. With this innovative release, PRS Guitars continues to push the boundaries of guitar design, while Sheeran adds another remarkable piece to his impressive repertoire.
