Urgent Appeal in Cardiff Sexual Assault Case: Perpetrator Still Free

UPDATE: A woman has made an urgent appeal for information regarding a sexual assault that occurred at the Retro Nightclub on Mill Lane in Cardiff, more than six months ago. The alleged perpetrator remains at large, and the victim is calling for anyone with details to come forward immediately.

The incident took place on June 28, 2025, during a night out with her partner. The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, reports that a man approached her in a seemingly jovial manner before suddenly turning aggressive and attempting to sexually assault her. Despite immediate intervention from security staff, the man was ejected but has not been identified or apprehended.

The victim reported the assault to South Wales Police only hours later. Unfortunately, her case was initially closed without further action due to unclear CCTV footage. After appealing the decision in August, the investigation was reopened and further evidence was gathered, yet no updates have emerged since then.

The woman expressed her frustrations, stating, “What happened that night has deeply affected me and my family, and it is something we will live with for a long time.” She is now pleading for anyone with information—no matter how small—to contact law enforcement.

Witnesses described the scene leading up to the assault, with the woman recounting a playful exchange with the alleged perpetrator prior to the attack. “At first, he seemed friendly, but then he looked at me nastily before the assault occurred,” she stated.

Security staff attempted to intervene as the situation escalated, but the woman hesitated to involve the police that night, believing it would be more challenging to get help on a busy Friday evening. However, she later realized the gravity of the situation and reported it to the police the following morning.

Initially, the investigation faced setbacks, with the victim feeling dismissed by law enforcement. She described her experience in the police station as uncomfortable, stating, “I felt like I was being brushed under the carpet.”

In a recent statement, a spokesperson from South Wales Police acknowledged the ongoing concerns surrounding personal safety and violence against women. They confirmed that a media appeal had been launched to identify the suspect, but no leads have resulted in his identification.

Authorities are urging anyone with information, including potential witnesses who were in or around the Retro Nightclub on that night, to come forward. The police can be contacted via 101 or through their official website. Anonymous reports can also be submitted through Crimestoppers.

The victim remains hopeful that new evidence will surface, emphasizing the importance of holding the perpetrator accountable. “This isn’t just about my case — it’s about women being able to go out without feeling afraid,” she said.

As the investigation continues with no updates for months, the urgency of the matter grows. The community is encouraged to assist in ensuring justice is served for the victim and to help keep public spaces safe for all.
