Niksic Firefighters Respond to 30 Daily Emergencies Amid Severe Weather

The recent severe weather in the municipality of Niksic has resulted in an overwhelming number of emergency interventions by the local firefighting and rescue unit. According to RTNK, the unit has faced up to 30 daily interventions, addressing issues related to both flooding and heavy snowfall that stranded vehicles across the region.

During the periods of intense rainfall, the firefighters assisted residents in flood-prone areas, particularly in neighborhoods near local rivers. Miloš Vukotić, from the Niksic Protection and Rescue Service, noted that the unit experienced its peak activity when there was a significant threat of flooding in areas such as Miločani, Brezovik, Grebice, and Duklo. “We had between 20 and 30 interventions each day. We maximized our capacity by bringing in additional personnel to manage our shifts effectively,” Vukotić stated.

The situation worsened when rain transitioned to snow, leading to further complications, especially on local roads. Firefighters from Niksic, alongside teams from Plužine, were dispatched to evacuate approximately ten vehicles stuck in snowdrifts along the Niksic-Plužine road. This ongoing weather crisis has highlighted the importance of caution, as Vukotić advised against unnecessary travel during such extreme weather conditions. He emphasized that if travel is essential, vehicles should be properly equipped according to legal requirements.

As emergency services continue to respond to the needs of the community, the resilience and dedication of the Niksic firefighters have been pivotal in ensuring safety during these challenging weather events. The local government and residents are urged to remain vigilant as the weather system evolves.
