A unique family photograph has emerged from a remote photography session, showcasing a joyful moment between a young boy and his pet pig. Taken by photographer Kelli Radwanski, the image captures the essence of family life in Nevada at 7 a.m., where the boy’s red hair mirrors that of his pig, named Ronald.
Radwanski was hired by Sara Weir to document her family’s daily life as they awaited the arrival of another child. With her home serving as the backdrop, the Weir children were eager to express themselves, displaying their personalities and treasured possessions. Radwanski, based in Oregon, utilized remote photography techniques developed during the pandemic to create the image.
Innovative Photography Techniques
In a process that highlights the intersection of technology and art, Radwanski employed a special app that allowed her to take control of Weir’s iPhone 13 camera. Prior to the shoot, Weir provided a virtual tour of her home, allowing Radwanski to identify the best lighting and settings for the photographs. “We used a tall standing tripod to hold the phone in place,” Radwanski explained. “This setup enabled the children to move in and out of the scenes with ease.”
Radwanski has successfully photographed over 500 people across 14 countries, showcasing the versatility of remote photography. This innovative approach has allowed her to continue her work while navigating the challenges posed by the pandemic.
The charming photograph features the boy, with his pig Ronald, whose name is inspired by a character from the popular book series, “Harry Potter.” Radwanski noted that the Weir family chose the name because of their shared red hair, a detail that adds to the photograph’s charm. “His content little face turned towards the morning light, their red hair matching in hue,” she recalled. “It was one of those perfect shots you can never plan for— and wouldn’t have the same magic if you did.”
