UPDATE: Starting TOMORROW, January 8, 2024, Kent County Council will begin accepting applications for the new £90 Cost of Living payments aimed at supporting struggling households across the UK. This initiative opens at 12 PM GMT and will be available until 12 PM GMT on February 26, 2024.
This crucial support comes as part of the Labour Party government’s Household Support Fund. Eligible Kent residents can apply for £90 pre-paid energy cards, providing immediate relief in the face of rising living costs.
To qualify, applicants must be aged 16 or over, reside in Kent, and live within one of the 12 local authorities governed by Kent County Council (excluding Medway, Bexley, or Bromley). Those receiving means-tested benefits are automatically eligible, while others must demonstrate a household income of £33,000 or less annually and not be eligible for free school meals.
Kent County Council emphasizes the importance of responsible use of this taxpayer-funded support. “We expect professionals completing the application on behalf of someone else to ensure the applicant meets all eligibility criteria,” officials stated. Each household can submit only one application, with vouchers delivered via email or SMS from their partner, Evouchers.com. For those without internet access, vouchers can also be sent via recorded delivery, requiring a signature upon receipt.
The council reminds families that those eligible for free school meals will receive separate support through food vouchers provided by their child’s school, reinforcing the message that the funds are intended for essential household needs.
IMPORTANT: The council will verify residency through the Department for Work and Pensions database and may request additional evidence, such as recent bills or bank statements.
This financial support is vital as families face increasing challenges from soaring living expenses. Kent residents are urged to act quickly and apply as soon as the application window opens.
