Raiders’ Maxx Crosby to Undergo Surgery, Out for Offseason

Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby is set to undergo knee surgery, sidelining him for the remainder of the 2025 NFL season, according to sources familiar with the situation. The Raiders have placed Crosby on injured reserve as part of a strategy to ensure his recovery ahead of the 2026 season. This decision follows the team’s earlier action to place Pro Bowl tight end Brock Bowers on injured reserve, marking a challenging period for the franchise.

Crosby’s injury initially occurred on October 19, 2025, during a game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Since then, he has struggled to participate fully in practices. An MRI conducted this week revealed that the injury had not healed adequately and posed long-term risks if left untreated. The Raiders confirmed that their decision to place Crosby on the Reserve/Injured list was based solely on medical advice.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Raiders expressed their commitment to Crosby’s health, stating, “After deliberate and thorough consultation with multiple top medical professionals, it became clear that this decision is in the best interest of both the franchise and the player. Maxx is the ultimate warrior, and he has fought extremely hard to compete each week with his teammates since injuring his knee mid-season.”

Crosby has been a cornerstone of the Raiders’ defense and has consistently put in the effort to play despite his injury. Head Coach Pete Carroll emphasized Crosby’s dedication, noting, “Each week, he has done everything you could possibly imagine a guy could do to play, and he’s been able to.” However, after careful evaluation, the coaching staff concluded that continuing to play was not a viable option.

The Raiders are also dealing with the absence of Bowers, who has been playing through a PCL injury and bone bruise since Week 1. The decisions to shut down both players come as the Raiders prepare for a crucial matchup against the New York Giants, a game that carries implications for the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft. The loser of this contest will likely strengthen their position for the No. 1 overall pick.

As the team looks ahead, Crosby expressed disappointment at the decision to end his season early. “I don’t give a s— about the pick. I don’t play for that,” he stated earlier in the week. “My job is to be the best defensive end in the world, and that’s what I focus on every day, and being a great leader and being an influence.”

Despite the significant setbacks, the Raiders are not planning to shut down any other players. Key contributors such as quarterback Geno Smith, running back Ashton Jeanty, and wide receiver Tre Tucker are expected to participate in the upcoming game against the Giants.

The decisions made regarding Crosby and Bowers highlight the Raiders’ focus on protecting their key assets as they navigate the remainder of the season. With both players sidelined, the franchise will be looking to develop its younger talent while maintaining competitive integrity in the league.
