Carmarthenshire Woman Raises £2,620 for Maternity Bereavement Room

A dedicated fundraising effort by Kimberley Davies has successfully raised £2,620 for the maternity bereavement room at Glangwili Hospital. The funds were collected through her challenge of climbing the British Three Peaks—Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Yr Wyddfa—in September 2025, a poignant tribute on what would have been the due date of her twin daughters, Sophie and Lara.

Kimberley, from Blaenwaun, faced significant challenges during her climbs, including severe weather conditions. “It was very challenging due to the weather as we had a yellow weather warning for wind and rain on each of the mountains,” she explained. The conditions were particularly harsh on Ben Nevis, where temperatures dropped to minus one degree Celsius.

On the final climb, Yr Wyddfa, Kimberley was supported by 30 family members and friends, ranging in age from eight to 81. “It was a very emotional walk seeing the number of people wanting to climb in memory of Sophie and Lara,” she said, highlighting the community’s support.

Kimberley undertook the challenge not only to raise funds but also to raise awareness about the experiences of baby loss. “I want to raise awareness of the negative outcomes in pregnancy as many experience the loss of their babies, but sadly it’s not spoken about,” she stated. Her twin daughters were lost due to Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome in July.

The funds raised will enable the maternity ward to purchase items to enhance the bereavement room, exceeding NHS core funding. “The support I received from the medical team in the ‘Pili Pala’ bereavement room was phenomenal—such compassionate staff who should be so proud of the job they do,” Kimberly noted.

She expressed her desire to show gratitude for the care provided during a profoundly difficult time. “I’m hoping the money raised will go towards the facilities in the Pili Pala room and benefit other families unfortunately going through the loss of their babies,” she added.

Kimberley acknowledged the contributions of all who supported her, particularly her friend Carrie, who accompanied her on all three mountains. She also thanked the community for their donations and support, as well as the staff in the bereavement suite at Glangwili.

Midwife Anwen Evans praised Kimberley’s efforts, stating, “At the maternity unit, we are extremely thankful to Kim, her family and friends for taking on the incredible challenge of the Three Peaks to raise funds for the maternity bereavement room, especially so soon after Kim’s heartbreaking loss of her twin girls.” She emphasized the importance of Kimberley’s courage and compassion, noting that the money raised will provide comfort to many families facing similar losses.

Through her remarkable journey, Kimberley Davies has not only made a significant financial contribution to a vital service but has also sparked an important conversation around the often-overlooked topic of baby loss.
