Many shoppers are seeking affordable technology options as the festive season approaches, particularly with rising prices making new devices seem out of reach. Finance expert Martin Lewis has recently shared valuable insights on how consumers can purchase popular tech items from Amazon at significant discounts, potentially saving nearly 50 percent off retail prices. His suggestions were highlighted during a segment on the morning show This Morning.
Lewis pointed out that Amazon has three sub-sites that many shoppers may not be aware of: Resale, Renewed, and Outlet. Each of these areas offers unique opportunities for savings, particularly for those willing to explore beyond the main Amazon site.
Discovering Amazon’s Hidden Deals
The first sub-site, Amazon Resale, features items that have been returned by customers, often at substantial discounts. Lewis explained, “There are discounts of up to 50 percent on products that Amazon has sent out and then returned.” He noted that while some items may have minor cosmetic damage, they are often in excellent working condition. A recent customer shared their experience, stating, “I bought a coffee machine for less than half price. The box was bashed but the machine looked brand new. Bargain.”
Lewis emphasized the importance of searching for these deals, as they are not prominently displayed on the main Amazon page. Shoppers may need to navigate specifically to Amazon Resale to uncover these opportunities.
The second site, Amazon Renewed, focuses on refurbished technology, typically older models that have been restored to a like-new condition. This category includes popular brands such as Apple, Samsung, and various laptops. “These items come with a one-year warranty,” Lewis explained, making them a reliable choice for those looking for quality at a lower price point.
Amazon’s Outlet is the third sub-site, which Lewis described as a mix of odds and ends. He noted that while some items may not be desirable, shoppers can occasionally find exceptional deals, particularly on toys and games. “It’s like a treasure hunt,” he said, encouraging consumers to explore this area for unexpected finds.
Shopping Smart: Navigating Discounts
With the holiday shopping window rapidly closing, Lewis advised consumers to act quickly if they want to receive their orders before Christmas. However, he also cautioned shoppers to approach Amazon’s displayed discounts with skepticism. “Amazon likes to play a little bit fast and loose with its discounts,” he warned. It is essential for buyers to investigate what the original price was before the stated discount.
To assist with this, Lewis recommended an independent price tracking website called Camel Camel Camel. This tool allows users to check the price history of specific items on Amazon, offering a clearer picture of how current discounts compare to historical prices. “You might see that while an item is currently discounted by 22 percent, it was previously available at an even greater discount,” he explained.
By utilizing these resources and taking a strategic approach to shopping, consumers can navigate Amazon’s offerings more effectively and secure meaningful savings during the holiday season. As the demand for tech products increases, being informed and cautious will help shoppers make the most of their purchases and find great deals.
