UPDATE: The highly anticipated 67th Athletic Street Race in Podgorica is set to take place on December 18, 2023, celebrating the city’s liberation. This historic event, known as the “19. decembar-Trofej Podgorice-Memorijal Veliša Mugoša,” promises to draw athletes and spectators alike to witness a day of thrilling competition.
The race will commence at 12:00 PM from the scenic Gorica Hill, directly opposite the Partisan Fighter monument. The course spans approximately 600 meters, providing a vibrant backdrop for this time-honored tradition.
The event kicks off with the opening ceremony at noon, followed by a series of races starting at 12:10 PM. Young female competitors from primary schools will race 600 meters, followed closely by their male counterparts at 12:15 PM. Junior female competitors from secondary schools will take on a 1,000-meter challenge at 12:20 PM, while junior males will race 1,500 meters starting at 12:30 PM.
At 12:40 PM, seniors, recreational runners, students, military personnel, and veterans will hit the track, with the prestigious Veliša Mugoša Memorial race scheduled for 1:10 PM. Cash prizes will be awarded to top finishers in the senior categories, specifically for registered athletes from Montenegrin athletic clubs under the ASCG. All participants will receive commemorative medals for their efforts.
The organizers have confirmed that each athlete may participate in only one category, with registration and bib distribution occurring on-site from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM on the day of the event. School students will receive race numbers through their teachers, and the top 20 finishers will determine the most successful primary and secondary schools, which will receive trophies and diplomas.
