UPDATE: A groundbreaking workshop was just held in Montenegro to address the urgent challenges posed by artificial intelligence (AI) in the workplace. Organized by the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Dialogue and the Trade Union of Montenegro (SSCG), this event comes in alignment with the 2025 Action Plan and the 2022-2027 Strategy for Occupational Health.
The workshop, titled “Workplace Education – AI in the Context of Occupational Health and Work-Life Balance,” took place at Plantaze AD and aimed to proactively engage employees on critical health and safety topics. Attendees were encouraged to share their perceptions and needs concerning workplace challenges, highlighting the growing significance of mental health, chronic stress, and burnout syndrome.
Experts at the workshop emphasized the increasing relevance of these issues in today’s work environments, exacerbated by constant digital tool usage and AI’s blurring of lines between personal and professional life.
“The social dialogue is a crucial mechanism for mitigating the negative effects of algorithmic management,”
stated Danka Cetkovic, a psychologist and HR consultant, who discussed whether AI serves as a “friend or foe” to workplace health and balance.
Vladimir Krsmanovic, coordinator for the SSCG, reinforced the necessity for collective bargaining adjustments to address the escalating integration of digital technologies. He pointed out that without safeguarding employee health, sustainable productivity and quality service are at risk.
The workshop also called for strict criteria regarding the collection and use of personal data to limit intrusive employee monitoring and uphold privacy rights. It underscored that mental health is not just a personal issue but a prerequisite for healthy organizations and societies.
As organizations worldwide increasingly adopt AI technologies, this workshop serves as a critical reminder of the need to prioritize worker well-being. The discussions and outcomes from this event could shape future labor policies in Montenegro and beyond.
